In December, 12 dance education students in the Department of Dance completed a six-week outreach program at Rocky River Elementary School in Cabarrus County. Rocky River Elementary has no dance teacher or dance program for its students. Beginning in late October, dance education majors went to the school each week to offer age-appropriate, curriculum-based dance activities to students in kindergarten through fifth grade, serving six classrooms.

Dr. Donna Dragon, Associate Professor of Dance, organized and directed the program. She is currently seeking funding to continue the outreach to Rocky River Elementary in the spring semester.

The Department of Dance offers the Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Dance and the Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Dance Education. Enrollment averages at 80 majors divided evenly between the two degrees. The Department of Dance produces two major student concerts a year, featuring choreography by faculty as well as guest artists, and an annual faculty dance concert.
