The famed Morehouse College Glee Club will join UNC Charlotte choral students on campus for a day of music-making and cultural exchange on Saturday, October 29, 2011.

Beginning in 1867 with the establishment of Morehouse as the first HBCU in the United States, the Glee Club has a long tradition of significant public appearances, having performed at the funeral of Martin Luther King Jr., the inauguration of President Jimmy Carter (as well as for several other presidents, including three times for Franklin Roosevelt), on the DVD "Christmas with Robert Shaw," and as the featured choir in "The Kennedy Center Honors: Robert Shaw." Additional notable appearances include Super Bowl XXVII and the Opening Ceremony for the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. The group also appears on the soundtrack for the movie "School Daze," directed by Morehouse alum Spike Lee. The Glee Club is featured annually in a nationally-televised concert special with the Spelman College Glee Club on PBS, and is just returning from having performed at the opening of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King National Memorial in Washington, D.C., (Dr. King was also an alumnus of Morehouse College).

The Choral Program and the Music Department is pleased to offer these opportunities for musical and cultural enrichment to our students and community. Other recent activities of a similar nature include hosting the widely-recorded and world-renown Choir of Clare College, Cambridge (UK), the Concordia Choir, the Luther College Choir, and The Florida State University Singers. Please contact Randy Haldeman, Director of Choral Activities for more information concerning these and other choral events.
