MUD Admissions
Application Process:

The M.U.D. program has a rolling admission process for students applying to the Urban Design program, with a final cut-off date of May 1st each year for subsequent Fall admission. However, because places in the program are limited, students are advised to complete their application well in advance of this date. Students wishing to pursue dual degrees M.U.D. / M.A. Geography (Community Planning) and M.U.D./M.B.A. (Real Estate) should generally apply to the M.U.D. program first, and if accepted then apply separately to the second program. Please send any queries in this regard to M.U.D. Program Coordinator, Professor David Walters at drwalter@uncc.edu Students from the four-year architecture degree program at UNC-Charlotte may qualify for automatic admission to the M.U.D. program. Criteria for automatic admission are set out under the relevant section below.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
For students wanting to apply for the M.U.D. / M.Arch dual degree, special application details pertain as follows. The application deadline for both programs is December 15th of the preceding year. This earlier application date ONLY applies to students planning on taking this particular dual degree, and these applicants are therefore encouraged to make sure that they leave plenty of time for GRE scores (and TOEFL scores if appropriate) to be reported to the graduate school during the fall semester. Only under special circumstances will applications involving M.U.D. / M.Arch dual degree be considered after this date. Please send any queries in this regard to M.U.D. Program Coordinator, Professor David Walters at drwalter@uncc.edu and Professor Peter Wong, M.Arch Program Coordinator, at plwong@uncc.edu

All applicants should complete the two-part application process comprised of the on-line application to the Graduate School at UNC-Charlotte and an additional portfolio submitted to the Graduate Admissions Committee at the School of Architecture.

Important Note: Applicants are responsible to make sure that all of their materials have been submitted. This applies particularly to the electronic submissions made to the Graduate School since the application will not be forwarded to the School of Architecture until all required parts of the application are received. Applications should be complete in all their parts by the final application deadline.

The School of Architecture’s Graduate Admissions Committee cannot finalize a decision until the Graduate School forwards these materials to us. Therefore, it is critical that applicants check their online application frequently after it is submitted in order to insure everything has been received. If the online record indicates a “referred status,” then the application is complete and our Admissions Committee will begin the review process.

Additional Requirements for International Applicants
Applicants whose native language is not English must demonstrate their proficiency in English by taking the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) examination. Overall scores of 575 with scores of 55 on individual sections (listening comprehension; structure and written expression; vocabulary and reading comprehension) are preferred.
