Basic Information
1. The Visual Resources Collection is open between 7:00 am – 4:00 pm, Monday – Friday. The VRC is located within the Charles C. Hight Architecture Library in the Storrs Building, and operates according to the University Library hours and regulations except as noted herein.
2. There are over 48,000 digital images and approximately 86,000 slides available for use by the UNC-C community. In addition, the University provides ARTstor, an image database and presentation software which contains over 500,000 images.
Policies
1. In keeping with copyright fair use guidelines, the VRC does not produce or reproduce images for personal use. Only images needed for classroom use and teaching purposes at UNC-C will be processed and added to the VRC collection. No image will be processed unless it is also to be added to the VRC collection.
2. The VRC exists primarily to support the curriculum. For this reason, faculty may submit image requests based on the need for new images for teaching and research.
A. If you are teaching a new class, submit your image needs at the beginning of the
preceding semester; the image order will be prioritized with other faculty requests. The
VRC will need the image source, i.e., slides, books, etc., well in advance of the start of
the semester in order to prepare the image and corresponding record. Images will not be
prepared and entered into the database without related data. If an image has particular
nuances that should be emphasized in the digital image, please specifically note this and
explain what you need to see in order to show the image in the classroom.
B. If you are teaching an existing class, your image order will be prioritized with other
faculty requests. Please turn in requests as early as possible; requests will typically not be
processed in less than 4 weeks.
3. Borrowing slides from the VRC collection: Architecture and Art Faculty may borrow up to 150 slides at one time; other UNC-C faculty may borrow up to 50 slides. Slides must be returned in 10 days. Faculty are financially responsible for all loss or damage to items checked out in their names. The replacement cost per slide is $10.00.

The VRC is located inside the Charles C. Hight Architecture Library in Storrs 200F, and
operates according to the University Library hours and regulations except as noted herein. It
contains the slide collection and one workstation with flatbed and slide scanners, which
may be reserved for faculty use during VRC hours; contact Jenna Duncan to reserve.

Image Donation Policies
The VRC welcomes contributions of images. If you own images that you find useful in the classroom, consider donating them to the VRC. Offered images must not duplicate images currently in the VRC and must be accompanied with appropriate identifying information. Minimum information includes: creator’s name, title / subject name and location, creation date, date photographed, photographer’s name..
To donate images to the VRC, burn the images to a CD or DVD and place them in Jenna Duncan’s mailbox, send through inter-office mail, or bring them to the VRC. When you donate images, you are agreeing to the scholarly use of those images by the CoAA community. They may be used in analog or digital format; they may not be added to the collection.The Image Donor Agreement must be filled out and signed when images are donated to the VRC.
Copyright Policy The CoAA Visual Resources Collection will acquire and make available images in accordance with the United States Copyright Act (U.S. Copyright Act of 1976, U.S. Code Title 17) and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte Policy Statement #113, Copyright Policy. The CoAA Visual Resources Collection will rely on the Educational Fair Use Guidelines for Digital Images, developed by CONFU: Conference on Fair Use , as well as the Image Collection Guidelines of the Visual Resources Association in its efforts to comply with United States copyright law. Reproduction, distribution, downloading, copying, or publication of images may be subject to restrictions.
